Medecins Sans Frontieres/Doctors' Without Borders (MSF) has extended its support to medical emergency services to 24 hours, seven days a week to Nawagai Tehsil Headquarter Hospital in Bajaur Agency. MSF took the initiative following thorough assessment, requests from community and Nawagai hospital management, as well as taking into account the needs of the population and existing healthcare gaps.
An inauguration ceremony of 24/7 emergency services was held by MSF at Nawagai Hospital, attended by Assistant Political Agent Nawagai, MS Nawagai Hospital, community elders and other key stakeholders. "MSF is committed to provide support to quality and timely medical services to the patients," said MSF project co-ordinator ShahbazIsrar Khan. "With provision of 24/7 ER services, we are confident that the population of Nawagai and nearby areas will greatly be benefited," he added.
MSF Country Representative in Pakistan, Walter Lorenzi's message was read out on the occasion. "MSF is proud to support the Emergency Services in order to have a lifesaving service for the population in need in this part of FATA, thanks to the support of the local administration. We count on the support of the FATA secretariat administration to allow us to support more in terms of medical services, including with our international staff."
Appreciating MSF for extending emergency services to 24/7, Medical Superintendent Nawagai Hospital, Dr Izzat Khan said that the step will add great value to healthcare services in Nawagai. The community elders also acknowledged the extended services and assured their continuous support for MSF.
