It is an honour to witness the inauguration of cutting-edge Coal Power Plant (CCP) today. Timely completion of the project has been achieved with the sound management practices of FFBL Power Company and its technical team. This further strengthens my belief that Pakistan is blessed with both the factors required for a nation to achieve sustainable development ie natural resource and human resource. What is required is a strong will to explore, develop and gainfully utilise these resources.
During the last couple of years several power projects have been commissioned helping to further stabilise the national grid which is a testimony of government's resolve to facilitate the consumers. At K-Electric we are also fully geared up to provide safe and affordable electricity to Karachi and have ensured security of energy supply for industry and commerce, which has a positive impact on economy and results in increased economic demand.
Our collaboration with FFBL Power Company to procure 52 MW of power supply for over a period of 30 years will not only enhance our generation capacity but is also in line with our vision of diversifying fuel-mix. New generation projects are KE's highest priority besides strengthening our transmission network and we look forward for more such collaborations in the future.
Through investments in transmission, distribution and generation during the last 7 years, the utility has been able to reduce transmission and distribution losses from 35.9% to 23.7%. Most importantly, in 2009, there was load shedding across the board and only 24% of the city was exempted. Today, 61% of the city as well as all industrial zones in Karachi are exempt from load-shed.
