My life's philosophy has always reflected a principle tenet of Islam, that is "Struggle is the meaning of life; defeat or victors is in the hands of God. But struggle itself is man's duty and should be his joy" (Al-Quran).
Today I am grateful to Almighty Allah, with His continued blessings to be able to mark the Inaugural Day of FPCL's Coal Power Plant. This state of the art facility is an avenue for FFBL's introduction in to a new industry segment. It will not only provide FFBL with steam and electricity for operational efficiency resulting in cost savings, but will also add 52 MW's to the National Grid under a long term supply agreement with K-Electric.
Like any other project a magnitude of problems did arise on an intermittent basis, which could have affected in deviation from the Project Completion. We confronted each issue head on, thus ensuring the success of this project.
The biggest challenge of this Project, was making the choice between EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) and Package Approach. We decided to proceed with the Package Approach. A Non-EPC approach for the construction of Power Plants is difficult to implement because of the complexity involved. In the Industry we rarely see Project of this scale implemented with a Package approach. Our Management had the conviction in the Project team's ability & capacity to work out all the plans, which with Allah's grace, we did.
Another difficult task was to carefully balance the requirements for each phase to ensure cost effective procurement of services and equipment. This was done by simultaneously mapping out requirements and evaluating design compatibility to prepare a precise and meticulous Project Procurement Plan.
During the last 20 years, I have had the opportunity to serve the Fauji Group in various capacities and throughout my professional career without doubt my Project Team remains the best lot of industrious and competent professionals. I am taking this opportunity to again convey my appreciation and gratitude to each member of my team, for their unwavering commitment to make this Project a success. Today without any reservation I am using this forum to attest to their professional integrity, commitment, and excellence.
I would also like to thank all the vendors and all those connected with this project specifically DESCON, NESPAK, Hyundai, Northern Heavy Industries, and many others. Especially thanking Lieutenant General Khalid Nawaz HI(M) Sitar-E-Eisar (Retd) and Lieutenant General M Haroon Aslam HI(M) SBt (Retd) for their trust continued support and guidance which helped me to turn the dream into reality.
