A parliamentary panel has asked the government of Balochistan as well as federal government to appoint well qualified teachers in the most backward province to bring educational standard at par with rest of the country. Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistan & Human Resources which met here with Senator Baz Mohammad Khan in the chair asked the federal and provincial governments to appoint highly educated teachers on merit in Balochistan so that educational standard can be improved in the province.
The senators were of the view that in past 12 years educational standard in restive province has massively declined due to law & order situation, following the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti which gave birth to a worst kind of militancy in the province.
Senator Saeed-ul-Hassan Mondokhail said teachers' appointments across the country should be merit-based, especially in Balochistan which lacks behind entire country on educational front and as a result people of the province become easy prey to the anti-state elements.
The chairman committee snubbed the officials of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Education Ministry as well as the Chairman Workers Welfare Board KPK for not completing the feasibility of a school in district Bannu. The committee directed the provincial education department and chairman Workers Welfare Board to start physical work on the school within three months and submit a detailed report with the committee.
On the proposal of Senator Saeed-ul-Hassan Mondokhail, the committee decided to visit the Workers Welfare Board-operated schools in Sindh. Senator Mondokhail said that all the workers welfare boards in consultation with federal secretary Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis should devise viable recommendations for addressing their problems so that quality education can be provided to the students enrolled in workers welfare board schools.
