The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) and Livestock and Dairy Development Department (L&DD) Government of Punjab inked a Memorandum of Understanding for the joint efforts to restore the backyard poultry here on Tuesday. The MoU was meant for overcoming the protein deficiency in rural areas on the one hand and to allow the recycling of kitchen and organic wastes on the other.
The MoU was inked by Director L&DD Department Dr Munir Shami, UAF Director Farms Dr Farooq Ahmad, UAF Sub-campus Toba Tek Singh Principal Dr Pervez Akhar and Director Poultry Research Institute Rawalpindi Dr Abdur Rehman.
It is endorsed by UAF Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Iqrar A Khan and Punjab Secretary Livestock Naseem Sadiq. It was decided at the MoU that L&DD will use the UAF sheds, equipment, hatchery the rearing of the birds. The existing infrastructure, machinery and flocks of the UAF will be used for the purpose. It was decided that the reared birds shall be distributed under the project of L&DD Department. Training of the farming community engaged in the rearing of rural poultry shall be arranged at the farms.
