The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday continued justifying their respective stances on the Panama Leaks case. The government team led by State Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, a long-time loyalist of the Sharifs, while talking to reporters outside the apex court rejected Imran Khan's assertion that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's counsel has challenged the admissibility of the Panama Leaks case.
"There is no truth in whatever Imran says...the Prime Minister himself prayed the apex court to hear the case [and] that's why the counsel for the PM and his children are submitting documents before the bench," she added.
She called upon the PTI chairman to give up the politics of, what she said, baseless allegations, adding he should sit with the government in order to carry forward the country towards development and implement the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
MNA Daniyal Aziz of the ruling party said that there is no truth in whatever Imran Khan says about the case through changing statements with each passing day, adding the case of PTI has no grounds.
"The first lawyer of PTI Hamid Khan withdrew the heavy book which the PTI had submitted as evidence. Have you ever seen a single piece of paper which the government lawyers in the case had taken back?" he questioned.
To a question about the confessional statement given by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, he said that it had already been quashed by the court because the statement had no tangible value as 13 judges disposed of the case of the Hudaibia Paper Mills.
He said the PM's family had paid back every penny of loan, adding PTI was politicising the Panama Papers issue for petty political gains.
Earlier, talking to reporters, PTI Chairman Imran Khan said that PML-N has challenged the admissibility of Panama case for the third time in the court.
Khan said that the Qatari prince's letter is the only money trail that PML-N has at the moment, adding, "First we saw a letter from Qatari prince and then we saw another letter from him. PML-N has still nothing to show except the letters of the Qatari prince who himself is corrupt."
Khan questioned why the PM has set different parameters of judgement for himself. He further said it was the duty of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to investigate the Panama case.
