According to Indus River System Authority (IRSA), current rain spell has improved the environment for the crops' growth. It has helped farmers in wheat crops cultivation especially in barani (arid) lands. Moreover, Punjab didn't find need of using canal water due to heavy downpour.
Irsa reported that the last reported spell of winter rains is favourable for wheat crop. In accordance with revised plan, now canals will remain closed till 5th February instead of 25th January and reservoirs have water capacity of around 2.1 million acre feet. The Met office has also predicted rain in the end of coming week.
