Spinal asymmetry triggers spinal cord diseases: expert

Spinal asymmetry is termed as the main cause of spinal cord diseases, Pakistan Society for Rehabilitation of Disabled, chairman, Dr Afzal Hussain said here on Sunday that wrong postures of sitting for long hours cause more complications in the disease.
"Neck and backache starts in the age between 20 to 40 years and aggravates in the later age while more than 25% people face neck and backache problem in their whole life, renowned Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr Afzal Hussain said while delivering a lecture on the topic of 'Spinal cord diseases and their modern cure' here on Sunday.
Dr Afzal maintained that sitting continuously for long hours in a wrong posture further aggravates the condition. There are misconceptions about neck and backache that these diseases develop due to obesity, old age, heavy labour or sports injuries, he said. Another wrong method of treatment of neck and backache is use of pain killers, which must be avoided, he said, adding, "Modern technique to cure neck and backache problem without using medicines is through application of specific frequency of sound waves which is being successfully implemented at KKT Lahore Centre."
He also informed the audience that usually it takes 3 to 12 weeks to restore broken ligaments after binding the bones of joints in the right direction. It is through natural healing process and it is successful in most of the cases, he said.
Dr Afzal Hussain said Orthopaedic injuries can be cured, if the patient approaches the doctor in time. Sometimes even arthritis is removed through sound waves and knee problems are resolved by this modern method of cure without involving medicines in the process of treatment, he said.
To a query, he said causes of spinal cord disorders include injuries of the spinal cord and vertebrae, infections, a blocked blood supply and compression by a fractured bone or a tumour.
