The Karachi Port handled 154,725 tonnes of cargo comprising 131,432 tonnes of import cargo and 23,293 tonnes of export cargo including 6,102 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday.
The total import cargo of 131,432 tonnes comprised of 55,030 tonnes of containerised cargo; 2,019 tonnes of general cargo; 22,258 tonnes of bulk cargo: 20,646 tonnes of coal; 1,612 tonnes of soyabean meal and 52,125 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 23,293 tonnes comprised of 20,693 tonnes of containerised cargo, 000 tonnes of general cargo and 2,600 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
As many as 6,102 containers comprising of 4,031 containers import and 2,071 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 1,059 of 20's and 1,486 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 544 of 20's and 291 of 40's loaded containers while 231 of 20's and 357 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were five ships namely Kota Kasturi, Taroko, Snow Ploeg, MT Karachi and Sagar Kanta carrying containers, oil tankers and coal respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were seven vessels viz. Kota Kasturi, CMA CGM Eiffel, Farha, Sea Harvest, Bum Shin, Al Mahboobah and HHL Amur carrying containers, oil tankers, chemical and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
There were four ships namely Bum Shin, Pike, Farha and HHL Amur carrying oil tankers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday, while two ships namely KMTC Dubai and Ital Milione carrying containers respectively are expected to sail on Friday.
There was one vessel viz. Abbey Road carrying mogas due to arrive on Thursday while six vessels viz. Al Farahidi, Hamburg Bay, MT Lahore, Hongli-8, Baltic Harmony and Oriental Queen carrying containers, oil tankers, steel rail and project cargo respectively are due to arrive on Friday.
