The third Pakistan Mega Leather Show is being held from January 27-29 at Lahore Expo Centre with a special focus on enhancing the investors' confidence in Pakistan's business market and to attract investors, national and international, towards the tremendous potential that exists in the leather sector of Pakistan.
Pakistan Tanners Association Chairman Anjum Zafar and Pakistan Footwear Manufacturers Association Chairman Javed Iqbal Siddiqui revealed this at a press briefing on the mega leather show.
The show is also aimed at enhancing the domestic potential to provide viable platform within the country for ties/joint collaboration between the allied industries of leather sector of Pakistan. The show is also being planned to portray and improve the positive image of Pakistan and to motivate the leather business entrepreneurs for business growth, they added.
They said the show is unique of its kind in Lahore which would provide viable platform to the local businessmen in general and the foreign exhibitors/buyers/customers/visitors in particular to capitalise on the potential business opportunities available in Pakistan, they said.
Pakistan is going to be very important in being the centre for excellent finished leather of all sorts such as cow, buffalo, sheep and goat skins and leather footwear, specially under 'one belt one road' Chinese programme and CPEC, they added.
This year two more allied associations, Pakistan Leather Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association and Pakistan Gloves Manufacturers and Exporters Association have joined hands with the PTA and PFMA for organising the third Pakistan Mega Leather Show.
They said the leather sector is the second biggest export-oriented value-added Industry of the country after textile. Our exports in the year (July-June) 2015-16 were US $980.757 million. It contributes 5 percent of exports earning of the country and also contributes 2.67 percent of GDP.
There are over 800 tanneries located in different cities of Pakistan, they added.
