President of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) Masood Naqi has proposed on Tuesday that government should make a system of debt payments for energy sector on permanent basis because consumers are the ultimate victims of delays in recovery of circular debt.
KATI president expressed concern on increasing circular debt of energy sector saying that due to debts amounting more than rupees 660 billion, production of electricity could be affected in coming days.
"The rise in circular debt despite the massive fall in international crude oil prices is a matter of concern. Should power generation companies make any cut, domestic and industrial consumers could not bear that," Naqi alerted.
He further said that due to shortage and higher prices of energy, industries are already facing big challenges, including rising cost of production and decline of exports.
He recalled that that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had adopted measures to resolve this issue just after he took over. He hoped that he would again give directives to sort out the issue.
