Cantonment Station's parking: Railways install electronic barriers, CCTVs
The Karachi division administration of Pakistan Railways (PR) in its attempt to beef up the security arrangements on the Cantonment Station premises has installed electronic barriers and more than 100 Close Circuit Television Cameras (CCTVs) at its public parking lot.
Divisional Commercial Officer, PR-Karachi, Nasir Nazir told APP Tuesday that the department with a view to facilitate the citizens in general has installed the electronic system for which a nominal fees is being charged.
"There are, however, no fees for those bringing in their vehicles to drop the passengers," said DCO-Karachi. He said with the objective to ensure proper maintenance of the system Pakistan Railways as per its policy is in process to hire services of private contractor. The contract, he said will be for five years and the approved party will be required to pay a fixed amount to the department on annual basis. This will be part of money collected as parking fees, by the contractor, he said.
Nasir Nazir said that parking fees worth Rs10 will be charged for motorcycles and rickshaws; Rs30 for motor cars; Rs40 for Suzuki pick ups and Rs50 for buses. He said once the planned security arrangement is turned functional barricades erected outside the main building of the railway station will be removed so that bonafide passengers may no more face any difficulty.
