Austrian Marcel Hirscher produced a startling second run to win the men's World Cup slalom on Sunday in Kitzbuehel and consolidate his lead of the overall standings. Chasing a sixth consecutive crystal globe, Hirscher clocked a combined time of 1min 45.23sec for his 42nd victory on the World Cup circuit.
It was the perfect boost for the 27 year old - who also won the Kitzbuehel slalom in 2013 - ahead of the February 6-19 World Ski Championships in St Moritz.
Briton Dave Ryding, leader after the first run, claimed a shock second, at 0.76sec, equalling the best British alpine ski result of Konrad Bartelski's second-placed finish in the 1981 Val Gardena downhill.
