Temperature reached minus seven degrees Celsius in Kalat as winter cold waves continued to batter Karachi and other parts of the country over the last 24 hours, the Met office said on Saturday. It forecast mainly cold and dry weather for the most parts of the country in the next 24 hours with rain-thunderstorm and snowfall are expected over the hills at isolated places in Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and Lahore Divisions, besides Upper FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
Met said that fog would continue to prevail over the plain areas of Punjab and Sindh during the night and morning hours. "Continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country. A westerly trough is present over northern area of country," it said. Maximum snow fell in Malam Jabba to 8 inches, followed by Kalam and Rawalakot 6 each, Murree 5, Skardu and Astore 1 each. Temperature dropped to minus seven degrees Celsius in Kalat, Parachinar and Gupis minus five each, Skardu, Quetta, Astore and Dalbandin minus four each, Bagrote, Kalam and Dir minus three each, Drosh, Malamjabba, Hunza and Murree minus two each.
