District Administration Peshawar has banned the sale of un-iodized salt and special teams will be formed to conduct visit to salt factories and take stern action against the violators of the ban. The decision was taken in a meeting held here with Acting Deputy Commissioner, Shahid Mahmood in the chair. Those who attended were included the officials of the district administration and representatives of Health and Education departments.
The participants of the meeting briefed the Acting Deputy Commissioner in detail regarding salt factories. The meeting prepared SOPs for salt factories under which salt factories in the district will be registered and unregistered factories will face stern action.
The finalised SOPs (Standard Operation Procedure) for salt factories and directed their proprietors to follow them strictly. The meeting further decided that Education department will run awareness campaign in the people regarding clean salt. The factories will have to mention ingredients of its product on their packages along with manufacturing and expiring date.
