Eight persons including rickshaw driver were killed on Friday morning when their rickshaw carrying students hit a Karachi bound Hazara express at a level crossing in Lodhran city some 80km south of Multan. DPO Lodhran Asad Sarfraz Khan told that this incident occurred due to negligence of gate man who opened the gate soon after crossing a train on up-track without caring the down-track. DPO said that six persons including five students of primary schools and a driver died on the spot and another died on way to shifting to Bahawal Victoria Hospital, Bahawalpur.
Safdar Nazir Sub inspector told 13 students were boarded on the rickshaw when this mishap occurred. He said that driver could not see due to zero visibility due to condensed fog. Rescue officer and hospital authorities have also confirmed the death of eight persons including seven students.
