The Chief Minister's Taskforce on Spurious Medicines sealed as many as 3592 medical stores and pharma factories on the charges of different irregularities, whereas, FIRs have been registered against 371 accused during year 2016. Drug courts decided 2386 cases imposing fine of Rs 73.2 million besides awarding total imprisonment of 75 years, 07 months to the culprits during the said period.
Punjab Minister for Primary & Secondary Health, who is also Chairman CM Task Force for Spurious Medicines, Kh Imran Nazir said that vigorous campaign against illegal and inhuman trade of spurious, substandard and unregistered medicines is underway successfully across the province. He said there is zero tolerance to the unscrupulous elements involved in heinous crime of spurious medicines. He reiterated that crackdown against manufacturers and sellers of substandard and spurious drugs would continue till its complete eradication.
