Ministry of Finance (MoF) has opposed restricting unutilized gas volume at HRL reservoirs to fertilizer plants and recommends that it to be open for generation companies as well. Sources revealed that the Petroleum Ministry in comments submitted to the Economic Co-ordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet on allocation of unutilized gas recommended that preference may be given to fertilizer sector in pursuance of dedication of Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) shallow gas reservoirs under Fertilizer Policy 2001.
Ministry of Water and Power recommended that any unutilized volume of gas may be allocated to thermal power station Guddu as Mari-Guddu pipeline had the capacity to take around 10 percent mmcfd more to meet the plant requirement. Ministry of Petroleum replied that it has no objection for off-take of unutilised gas volumes by the existing consumers of MPCL, including thermal power station Guddu, at a notified price.
