South Korea's state-backed Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corp purchased 126,151 tonnes of rice on Thursday, fulfilling tenders it had placed a week ago, European traders said. The tender had sought brown short, brown long, milled long and milled medium rice for arrival between February and May, 2017. The rice was purchased from China, the United States, Thailand and Vietnam, traders said. All the purchases were made at prices including delivery to Korea.
The state grain agency bought 50,488 tonnes of China-origin rice in three consignments from Posco Daewoo Corp all at $852.00 a tonne. Another trading house also sold China-origin rice in three consignments: 18,774 tonnes at $839.99 a tonne, 15,000 tonnes at $839.98 a tonne, 5,778 tonnes at $839.97 a tonne. Posco Daewoo also sold 11,111 tonnes from Vietnam at $402.75 a tonne, 5,000 tonnes from Thailand at $492.80 a tonne and 10,000 tonnes from the United States at $670.74 a tonne.
