The services of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) and Ufone went down in most parts of the country due to technical issues in optical fibre cable, resulting in major services problems for the customers. PTCL landline as well as DSL and Ufone cellular services went completely down for users in several areas of the country.
Services for both the companies were reportedly down in parts of Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and other cities. PTCL confirmed that its services were impacted and they were working to restore them. PTCL posted on Facebook, "We are currently facing major outage on our network due to which internet service to some of our customers is impacted. Our teams are working on-ground to restore the service as soon as possible. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused."
According to officials, due to some development work the fibre cable got cut near Karachi, impacting the countrywide shutdown. Ufone and PTCL said that they were still gathering information regarding the incident. However, PTCL spokesperson said that work on restoration of service was under way.
