A leading Karachi-based cigarette manufacturing company categorically said on Monday that the company has nothing to do with illegal facility raided by the Directorate General Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Inland Revenue (IR), the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), in Chingley, Buner.
In a statement issued here on Monday Ruby Gul, Manager Communications, Contributions and Strategy, Philip Morris (Pakistan) Limited, said that it is the company's policy to destroy all machinery meant for disposal to avoid illegal use by illicit cigarettes industry.
She clarified that Philip Morris Pakistan is not involved with any unregistered cigarette manufacturer and we have no dealings with the illegal facility raided by Directorate General Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Inland Revenue (IR) in Chingley, Buner. "We are currently investigating facts concerning the matter, but we want to make it clear from the outset that our policy is to destroy all machinery meant for disposal to avoid illegal use", she said.
The illicit trade in cigarettes is a major concern in Pakistan, which directly and adversely impacts our business. The company routinely act in partnership with the relevant authorities to combat this serious problem and will continue to assist them in their investigations." Manager Communications, Philip Morris (Pakistan) Limited added.
