Container backlog at KICT surges to 500

The containers backlog at Karachi International Containers Terminal (KICT) has now surged to 500 containers, following 4-6 day delay in containers grounding. The issue was raised by the Karachi Customs Agents Association (KCAA) here on Monday. It said that presently the containers backlog was hovering around 500 containers at KICT, due to unusual delay in containers grounding, which was now extended up to 4 to 6 days.
The KCAA further said that neither customs department nor terminal bothered to pay heed on the complaints lodged by the KCAA in this regard that led putting excessive financial burden of demurrages and detention on the trade. Keeping this in view, the KCAA has now requested the customs authorities to look into the matter and take remedial measures in order to facilitate the trade at maximum.
