The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has directed the collectors of customs to dispose of confiscated vehicles as per rules/procedure or allow re-export of the same, as the ministry of commerce has not allowed any relaxation of age limit on the import of second-hand/used cars.
In this regard, the FBR has issued instructions to the collectors of customs here on Friday in line with the policy of the ministry of commerce. The FBR has also referred to the viewpoint of ministry of commerce on the age condonation of imported cars. According to commerce ministry, M/o industries & production in pursuance of the new Auto Development Policy (2016-21) has inter alia notified that no relaxation regarding age may be granted under any circumstances for import of second-hand/ used cars.
The ministry of commerce has been receiving requests from several importers for condonation of age limit of the vehicles. The matter of granting waiver of the overage vehicles has been examined once again in this ministry and it has been decided not to grant waiver of any vehicle. The FBR is requested to direct the customs to expeditiously dispose of the confiscated vehicles as per rules and procedure or allow re-export of the same under the relevant provisions of Appendix E of the IPO, the ministry of commerce added.
