National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa deposited an amount of Rs 40.12 million recovered from accused Javed Khan, Budget Officer Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Department in national exchequer. A team of NAB KP raided the house of Budget Officer Javed Khan on February 26, 2016, and recovered Rs 40.12 million cash and expensive weapons during the house search.
Accused Javed Khan and Arshad Majeed (Contractor) were arrested by NAB KP on February 21, 2013. On receipt of complaints, Director General NAB KP had authorised an inquiry against Police Officers Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and others for alleged embezzlement in procurement of weapons, equipment and vehicles in 2009-10 by violating Government rules thus causing huge loss to state exchequer.
During the course of inquiry, it was revealed that gross violation of procurement rules were committed by the purchase committee in awarding tenders to favourite contractors who had no previous experience of supplying such items and for which payments were made in advance. The inspection committee was also found responsible for not carrying out tests / trials of weapons, ammunition and equipment according to procedure and obtained clearance reports from agencies concerned and amount has been recovered from persons concerned.
