NJHP to start power generation on January 30

Neelum-Jhelum hydropower project would start generation of electricity on January 30, 2017. Chairman National Assembly Standing Committee on Planning Development and Reforms, Abdul Majeed Khan told this to Business Recorder here on Thursday. The chairman said the committee during its second day visit examined various sections of the Neelum-Jhelum hydropower project. He said that work on the project is in the completion stage. He said the project director and engineers have assured the committee that work would be completed by the end of December.
He further said the relevant engineers working on the project told the committee that some work has been left on the side of reservoir relating to water lines. However, he added that the process of water storage in reservoir has been started in October. Enough water would be stored in the reservoirs till January 30 for generation of electricity, he said.
According to a handout issued by the secretary committee, the Standing Committee on Planning, Development and Reform met Thursday at office of the Chief Executive Officer, Neelum-Jhelum hydropower project Muzaffarabad under the chairmanship of MNA Abdul Majeed Khan Khanan Khail.
The committee visited different sites of the Neelum-Jhelum hydropower project and monitored progress of the project. The committee was apprised that the project will be operational by December 2017. The committee directed that all efforts be made to complete the project in line with the given time frame.
