The Embassy of Japan and United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Country Office in Pakistan on Wednesday signed a pilot project of $1.79 million aimed at development of a women bus service in selected districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The envisaged project would be implemented by UNOPS Pakistan Office in partnership with the KP Transport Department and UN Women through the financial support of the government of Japan.
The project would pilot 14 buses in three districts including Peshawar, Mardan and Abbottabad. The introduction of women bus service was an initiative taken to make women feel safe, secured and comfortable when travelling.
