Two percent quota for disabled persons in jobs to be implemented: Mamnoon
President Mamnoon Hussain said responsibility rests with every segment of the society to work towards protection of the rights of special persons. He was addressing a function in connection with International Day of Persons with Disabilities in Islamabad on Saturday. The President expressed satisfaction that not only the government but the private sector was also paying attention to the welfare of the special persons.
He said that the disabled persons deserve equal opportunities to excel in different walks of life without any discrimination and the welfare of the special persons was imperative to achieve the sustainable development goals.
The President said a letter would be written to all the departments including the provincial chief secretaries directing them to ensure implementation of two percent quota for disabled persons in government jobs. Mamnoon Hussain also directed that ramps for disabled persons should be built in all the buildings and public places in order to facilitate the movement of special persons.
The President said Pakistan was signatory to the UN Convention regarding the rights of special persons and efforts would be made to fully implement it. Earlier in his address Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhary said that special education institutions have been set up for education and training of the persons with disabilities. He said national policy for the persons with disabilities have also been formulated. On the occasion children with disabilities presented tubules, national songs and poems.
