On the instructions of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif four teaching hospitals named Jinnah Hospital Lahore, Allied Hospital Faisalabad, Benazir Bhutto Hospital Rawalpindi and Children Hospital Multan would be developed as model hospitals with billions of rupees.
Under the plan, the present buildings/infrastructure of these hospitals, sewerage and electric system would be improved and deficiencies in the plumbing and water supply also be removed and a new look would be given to the said hospitals. Medical equipment and machinery would be overhauled and new equipment also be provided according to the requirements.
Provincial Minister for Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Khawaja Salman Rafique chaired a meeting in connection with the development of the four teaching hospitals as model hospitals. Secretary Specialised Healthcare & Medical Education Najam Ahmed Shah, Chief Planning Officer Abdul Haq Bhatti, Consultant Dr Haq Nawaz Bharwana, Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College Professor Dr Mahmood Shaukat, MS of Jinnah Hospital, Allied Hospital Faisalabad, Benazir Bhutto Hospital Rawalpindi, Children Hospital Multan and Technical Expert of Infrastructure Development Agency Punjab (IDAP) also attended the meeting.
Najam Ahmed Shah directed that janitorial services, plumbing, laundry and printing work of the hospitals should be completely outsourced. He also directed to furnish a report regarding the needs of architectural designing, removing of seepage from the hospitals, changing/repairing electrical wiring, water supply, flooring and cost estimates should be furnished.
