SC suo motu on eligibility SPSC chairman, members' resignations status sought
The Supreme Court on Thursday sought progress report by December 08 from Sindh government pertaining to current status of resignations of Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) chairman and all other members. A three-member bench of the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali heard a suo motu case regarding the eligibility of chairman and members of the SPSC.
Earlier, the apex court had taken suo motu notice regarding the eligibility of chairman and members of the SPSC on an application filed by Muhammad Junaid Farooqui, Advocate Sindh High Court. During the course of proceedings, a member of the bench Justice Amir Hani Muslim said while addressing the Advocate General Sindh that as to why Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has not accepted resignation of a member of the SPSC Ashiq Memon.
Justice Amir Hani Muslim observed that Memon is a doctor by profession and was appointed in Sindh prison department where a prisoner was assassinated during his duty saying being a blue-eyed, his resignation was not accepted. The Advocate General Sindh apprised the bench that the government has accepted resignations of five members including chairman of the SPSC and requested the court for more time to submit report in the matter. Accepting the Advocate General's plea in the matter, the bench adjourned the case till December 08.
