A court in Kazakhstan convicted nine men on terrorism charges Monday, giving seven of them life sentences over attacks that killed seven people last summer, state media said Monday. State news agency Khabar.kz reported the two men not handed life sentences were given 20- and 22-year terms in jail for their role in violence that roiled the western town of Aktobe, in the country's oil region about 100 kilometres (62 miles) from the Russian border. In total four civilians and three soldiers were killed in Aktobe on June 5 when assailants attacked gun shops and tried to storm a military base in a bus they had hijacked.
