Collector Customs Lahore Zulfiqar Younas has assured the leather exporters of early clearance of all pending rebate claims. While addressing the tanners on Monday, he said the refund claims of all the Pakistan Tanners Association (North Zone) members would be cleared on priority basis as long delay in refund payment has been inflicting the tanning industry.
The association office-bearers including Chairman Azam Malik and Collector Customs have agreed to evolve a comprehensive mechanism to release the refunds as non-payment of refunds has resulted in falling exports which will widen the trade gap further.
The Collector pledged to provide all necessary facilities to the Lahore-based exporters and importers besides removing hurdles to motivate them to do their business through Lahore Dry Port. He said the Pakistan Customs is introducing the business-friendly policies for encouraging the business community to struggle hard for promotion of exports. PTA Chairman Anjum Zafar said that Pakistani leather exporters have crumbled because of blockage of sales tax and duty drawback refunds for the past several years. "We want no benefits but we do want our money refunded.
