Poultry dealers here on Thursday held a protest demonstration against the district administration for the arrest of their colleagues. The protesters led by Mutahidda Poultry Association president Niaz Gul and general secretary Hazrat Gul carrying placards and banner inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands gathered at main Sher Shah Suri Road outside Peshawar Press Club.
They also chanted full-throated slogans in favour of their demands and against the district administration for a crackdown on poultry owners for violating price list. Talking to media persons on the occasion, the association office-bearers said that they bring poultry from Punjab upon which transportation charges also come, but the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Peshawar kept 26 rupees difference with the local poultry. They also alleged that the DC forcibly taken their signatures on a written agreement.
The poultry association office-bearers also informed that they were approached to the Peshawar High Court against the written agreement through a writ petition. They said that the apex court restricted the district administration of taking any action against the poultry owners till December 22, but despite the court's orders the district administration arrested several of their colleagues in Board Bazzar, Town area for violation of government fixed price list.
