The prices of essential kitchen items remained stable during the past week as compared to the preceding week, revealed a survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Saturday. According to details of the survey, prices of chicken, egg, sugar, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) along with majority of vegetables and other non-perishable items were found stable during the week under review.
However, it was observed that the hotel owners have increased the price of one cup of tea from Rs 20 to Rs 25 per cup in many parts of the twin cities, while tandoor (oven) operators have reduced the weight of roti (wheat bread) from 120 grams to 100 grams but are selling the commodity at old rate ie Rs 7 per roti.
Good quality ghee/cooking oil brands like Dalda 5kg tin is being available at Rs 850, egg price in the wholesale market went up by Rs 10 per dozen from Rs 100 to Rs 110 per dozen, while price of chicken went up by Rs 200 per 40kg from Rs 5,000 to Rs 5,200 in the wholesale market. According to the survey, the sugar price didn't witness any change, and is being available at Rs 3,700 per 50kg bag. Wheat flour also did not witness any change, which is being sold at Rs 760 per 20kg bag in the retail market.
The LPG is being sold at Rs 115 per kg and a domestic LPG cylinder weighing 11.8kg is being available at Rs 1,270. Sugar in the retail market is being available at Rs 77 per kg, chicken at R 150 per kg, while chicken meat is being available at Rs 260 per kg and eggs at Rs 110 per dozen.
Tomatoes price in the wholesale market has reduced from Rs 250 to Rs 230 per 5kg, which in the retail market are being sold at Rs 55 per kg against Rs 60 per kg. The price of best quality potato jumped to Rs 250 from Rs 230 per 5kg, while normal quality potato is being sold at Rs 180 from Rs 150 per 5kg.
Potatoes in the retail market are being sold at Rs 60/50 per kg against Rs 55/40 per kg. Onion price witnessed no change and is being available at Rs 150 per 5kg in the wholesales market, which in the retail market are being sold at Rs 40 per kg. According to the survey, ginger price further reduced from Rs 400 to Rs 350 per 5kg, which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 90 per kg. The price of garlic reduced from Rs 1300 to Rs 1200 per 5kg which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 280 per kg against Rs 300 per kg.
Brinjal price further went down from Rs 225 per 5kg to Rs 150 per 5kg which in the retail market is being available at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 60 per kg, while carrot price jumped up from Rs 200 per 5kg to Rs 350 per 5kg, which in the retail market is being sold at 80 per kg against Rs 60 per kg. The price of cucumber was found stable at Rs 200 per kg which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 50 per kg.
The prices of peas witnessed a reduction from R800 per 5kg to Rs 700 per 5kg which in the retail market are being sold at Rs 160 per kg against 180 per kg. kadu price witnessed an increase from Rs 100 to Rs 150 per kg which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 35 per kg against Rs 25 per kg.
The survey further observed that karaila price reduced from Rs 500 to Rs 400 per 5kg which is being sold at Rs 100 per kg against Rs 120 per kg in the retail market. Arvi price was found stable at Rs 250 per 5kg, which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 60 per kg.
The prices of cauliflower and cabbage witnessed a reduction of Rs 50 per 5kg from Rs 200 to Rs 150 per 5kg, which in the retail market are being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 50 per kg. Capsicum price reduced from Rs 800 to Rs 500 per 5kg, which is being sold at 120 per kg against Rs 200 per kg and okra price remained stable at Rs 350 per 5 kg in the wholesale market which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 80 per kg. Tori price remained stable at Rs 300 per 5kg which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 70 per kg.
The survey observed no change in the prices of other essential kitchen items including rice, pulses, spices, milk and others. Dal moong is being sold at Rs 140 per kg, lobia at 120 per kg, Masoor at Rs 145 per kg, dal chana at Rs 150 per kg and Kabuli chana is being available at Rs 170 per kg.
Prices of most of the fruits during the week under review witnessed a mixed trend as good quality local banana is being sold at Rs 80 per dozen while per dozen rate of normal quality banana remained Rs 50. Pomegranates are being available in the range of Rs 100 to Rs 200 per kg, guava at Rs 50/70 per kg, apples in the range of Rs 70 to Rs 250 per kg, while good quality grapes are being available at Rs 180 per kg.
