President, SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, SurajVaidya signed an MoU with Dr Sunil Motiwal, CEO, SAARC Development Fund during the SAARC CCI roundtable conference on "Energizing SAARC: Creating Synergies" in collaboration with Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce & Industry, in Soaltee Crown Plaza hotel, Kathmandu, Nepal on November 14, 2016.
The MoU was signed with an objective to contribute towards social economic development of the SAARC region through project collaboration. Both institutions agreed to collaborate to leverage synergies in their skills, strengths and competencies to further strengthen their collaborative links.
Very recently SAARC CCI has brought forward a study wherein more than 120 potential projects are identified for investment in SAARC member states. The study highlights fifteen to twenty projects from each member country of SAARC. SAARC Development Bank, China Council for Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and our partners from the development sector have shown keen interest in partnering for the launch of the study.
Furthermore, SAARC CCI and Faisalabad Investment Industrial Estate Development & Management Company have recently signed an MOU for developing first of its kind SAARC Industrial Park in Faisalabad. The Industrial Park will attract investments from all 8-member states to form industrial units, with special incentives, to promote trade and commerce across SAARC.
Both SAARC Development Fund and SAARC CCI agreed to communicate with each other on an ongoing basis for sharing of information, experiences and potential areas of collaboration. Such sharing may include, inter alia, information about relevant international economic and social developments, programs, new initiatives and opportunities in the region.
The event was graced by former minister of power of Bangladesh, Professor Mohammed Tamim, H. E Former Minister at the President's Office Maldives and Ambassador-designate of Maldives to Japan, Mohamed Hussain Shareef, Dr Salman Ali Shah, former Finance Minister, Chairman PTC-India, Deepak Amitabh, former Minister of Defence and National Security, Maldives, Ahmed Mujuthaba, Secretary General, SAARC, Arjun Bahadur Thapa, Director General of SAARC Arbitration Council (SARCO), Dr Thusantha Wijemanna, Aslam Khan, Energy Expert from Pakistan, Vice President, SAARC CCI (Nepal), Om Rajbhandari, Vice President, SAARC CCI (Bhutan), Karma Dorji, and Executive Director SAARC CCI, Hina Saeed.
