National ranking player and promising Barkat Ullah clinched the trophy of the Men's singles of first Khurshid Alam Khan Memorial Tennis Tournament played here at Synthetic Courts Qayyum Sports Complex on Monday.
Former Sports Minister Syed Aqil Shah was the chief guest on this occasion. Director Anti-Corruption, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zeb Ullah Khan, Director Operation Tariq Mehmood, Zaid Alam Khan, President KP Tennis Association Dr Tahir, Organising Secretary Omar Ayaz and large number of spectators and spectators were present and witnessed the thrilling final played between Barkat Ullah and Saqib Umar.
Besides thrilling Men's singles final 10-year-old Hamza Roman also handed an upsetting defeat to his strong rival top seeded Kashan Umar in a marathon 2-1 final lasted for one hour and 20 minutes. It was the final of the Men singles when both Barkat Ullah and Saqib Umar gave each other a tough fight. Barkat Ullah lost the first set by 4-6 when Saqib Umar exhibited classic display of forceful smashes and attacking display. Saqib Umar, a baseline player, twice broke Barkat Ullah and thus won the first set by 4-6 wherein both were also locked at 4-4 in the set.
In the Under-12 final national under-10 champion Hamza Roman upset Kashan Umar at 2-1, the score was 3-6, 6-2 and 6-3. Both Hamza and Kashan Umar played well and gave each a tough resistance. Kashan beat Hamid Israr and Hamza beat Shahsawar in the semi-finals.
At the end, the chief guest Syed Aqil Shah, Director Anti-Corruption, KP Zeb Ullah Khan, Tariq Mehmood, Zaid Alam Khan gave away trophies and cash prizes. Syed Aqil Shah lauded the efforts of the KP Tennis Association for holding the event named after former IGP late Khurshid Alam Khan.
