Leader of parliamentary parties and government representatives will meet today (Monday) to devise a new policy on issue of Afghan refugees' repatriation to their home country.
Sources within Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (Safron) told Business Recorder that leaders of all parliamentary parties have been invited to attend the meeting in which the political leadership would be taken into confidence on the repatriation of Afghan refugees.
They said that Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervaiz Khattak has also been invited to attend the meeting in which the political leadership is expected to build a national consensus on the refugees' issue.
According to the sources, the new policy on Afghan refugees' repatriation after taking all the political parties into confidence would be sent to the federal cabinet for approval.
There are still about three million Afghans in Pakistan and nearly half of them are registered as Afghan refugees. The sources said that Pakistan was negotiating with the stakeholders including the Afghan government and the UNHCR to ensure the refugees go back to their homes with honour and dignity.
In June this year, the government of Pakistan extended their stay until December 3, 2016.
"We hope that the Afghan government and UNHCR will engage in serious dialogue for their early return," said a Foreign Office official, adding the Prime Minister has generously offered to provide whatever assistance is required for transferring and sustaining the camps to Afghanistan and their ultimate integration into Afghan society.
