State Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Marriyum Aurangzeb Friday said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Nehal Hashmi's statement about former Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad does not reflect the stance of the federal government.
Talking to media persons during her visit to Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), she termed Hashmi's statement as his personal views. Hashmi claimed that era of 'terror and dictatorship' has come to an end with the exit of Ibad, who served for more than 14 years and had been appointed by the former military ruler Pervez Musharraf.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said that training programmes for journalists to hone their skills are need of the hour and her ministry in collaboration with the journalist bodies will launch a comprehensive programme for this purpose very soon. She said the government believes in the freedom of expression and would continue facilitating growth of independent media in the country. She directed the PEMRA to ensure broadcasting of national interests and national culture-based content.
Chairman PEMRA Absar Aalam briefed the minister about the functions and working procedures of the institution. A complete institutionalised training programme for the employees is also need of the hour, particularly for enhancing their professional skills and equipping them with modern trends of development in monitoring system, she said.
