Mystery surrounds a possible visit of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to central Punjab, as the dates of his arrival have been changed one after another since early September. A delay in his possible visit has become a permanent feature, which is resulting into the postponement of the announcement of new party set-up in the central Punjab. The consultation process has always been completed in this regard and a formal report has also been submitted to the party chairman in the month of October.
The party workers are waiting for Bilawal's visit since the month of September, followed by the month of October and now November is round the corner but dates of his visit are being shifted from one to another on one or the other pretext. The party sources have now given November 11 as the next date of Bilawal's arrival to Lahore in order to announce new party set up for the central Punjab.
Meanwhile, another party source has said that Bilawal would be here in the end of November. He is going to celebrate the party's foundation day celebrations at the Bilawal House Lahore, added the sources.
The party circles are of the view that central Punjab is a real challenge for Bilawal Bhutto to win over ahead of 2018 general elections. Qamar Zaman Kaira has almost been finalized to head the party organisation at the central Punjab level. His pro-people style would definitely help the party to regain the ground it had lost in the hands of PMLN and the PTI in 2013 elections.
Renowned economist Shahid Javed Burki has estimated in his recent article that 'a quick study of the results of the 2013 elections suggests that some 15 million moved away from the People's Party and were equally divided between the Nawaz League and Tehreek-e-Insaf.
However, he added, the beneficiaries must not assume that this was a permanent move. If this social group is unhappy with the substance of governance, it will move on to other places.
This is one reason why we are likely to see considerable volatility in the structure of politics in the country. According to the party sources, Bilawal's visit has been delayed due to his over committed engagements in Sindh, as his schedule is full of meetings with party set up from the Interior Sindh. They said he is trying utmost to make a visit to Lahore in the next week of November to announce new party set up for the central Punjab and chair the party's foundation day celebrations.
