National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has reportedly set November 15, 2016 deadline to finalise cases of misuse of authority against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif, former Prime Minister Raja Parvez Ashraf, former Prime Minister, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and former Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, well-informed sources told Business Recorder.
NAB which is under pressure from the Supreme Court of Pakistan and Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf Chairman Imran Khan for not performing its duty, will complete investigation of 49 mega cases out of the total of 179 cases which are related to politicians and former bureaucrats, the sources added.
Investigation against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif is related to misuse of authority in construction of a road from Raiwind to the Sharif Family House, thus allegedly misappropriating Rs 126 million. According to sources, investigation against former Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and former Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi is related to misuse of authority to build assets beyond means. NAB had obtained information from an informer whose name has not been revealed. Total amount involved in this case is Rs 2.428 billion.
NAB has closed a case against Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar for misuse of authority to allegedly build substantial assets. The sources said NAB has also fixed November 15 deadline to complete an inquiry against former Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Aslam Raisani regarding allegedly misuse of authority in recruitments. The financial impact of his actions will be determined later.
An inquiry against former Chairmen Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Abdullah Yousuf, Salman Siddique, Ali Arshad Hakeem, ex-Director PaCCs Akhtar Majeed Khalid and Additional Collector Customs and others will also be completed by November 15, 2016. All the officials have been accused of awarding contract of $11 million to M/s Agility. An inquiry against the official had been authenticated on June 15, 2015. The sources said inquiries against Senator Sehr Kamran, former Minister of Information Firdos Ashiq Awan and Grand Hayat Hotel will also be completed by November 15.
