LAHORE: The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the federal government on a petition challenging the appointment of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Tariq Bajwa.

The court also sought complete record of his appointment on the next date of hearing.

The bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar heard the petition filed by Pakistan Peoples Party Senator Taj Haider, at the Supreme Court Lahore Registry.

During the proceedings, the petitioner's counsel Latif Khosa argued that the appointment of Tariq Bajwa had been made in violation of rules and regulations without advertising the position. He pleaded with the bench to set aside the appointment being non-transparent.

The bench after hearing initial arguments issued notices to the government and sought record of his appointment.
