LAHORE: Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Dr Hasan Askari has said that holding of peaceful and transparent elections is the foremost priority of the caretaker setup.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, he said that all the necessary arrangements were being made to ensure transparent elections.

He said the caretaker setup was totally impartial as well as apolitical. "We neither have nor would have any political agenda," he added.

The chief minister said that the caretakers were here only for the holding of free, fair and transparent elections and they would return back after fulfilling the responsibility in proper manners.

He said that every necessary step would be taken for organising transparent elections and voters would be accorded an opportunity to use their right of franchise in a peaceful and independent environment, adding that the nation would not be disappointed by the caretaker setup.

Askari said that all the political parties would be provided equal opportunities to take part in the elections and different steps and performance of the government would be the evident proof of it.

He said that mechanism had been devised for peaceful holding of the elections. "Conducive atmosphere will be ensured for voters and the caretaker setup will initiate every sort of steps to maintain law and order situation," he added.

He said that caretaker setup was working in an impartial manner within the scope of the constitution.

"No one will point finger at it when the caretaker government will leave after fulfilling its duties and we shall succeed to fulfil the moral and constitutional obligations," he concluded.
