The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on Friday recommended eight names for appointment as additional judges of Lahore High Court (LHC) and four names as additional judges of Peshawar High Court (PHC).
The JCP meeting was held here on Friday with Chief Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk in the chair. The commission recommended the names of Qazi Amin, Mirza Waqas Rauf, Shahid Karim, Chaudhry Mushtaq Ahmed, Khalid Mehmood Malik, Ali Akbar Qureshi, Masood Abid Naqvi and Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal for appointment as judges of Lahore High Court to the Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment for approval.
The Commission recommended four names including Qalander Ali Khan, Guzanfar Khan, Muhammad Younis Tehiam and Haider Ali Khan for appointment as additional judges of PHC. It is worth mentioning here that Chief Justice Lahore High Court had sent 11 names for appointment as judges, but the JCP deferred two names including Anwarul Haq Pannu and Sherahm Sarwer Chaudhry whereas rejected the name of Muhammad Ibrahim Khan. Likewise, the Commission rejected the name of Abdul Aleem Khan for appointment as PHC judge.
All members of the JCP participated in the meeting except Attorney General for Pakistan due to his visit abroad. The recommended names will now go to the Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment, which has the authority to approve or disapprove the names.
