Hong Kong, Shanghai stocks end down

The Hang Seng Index fell 1.35 percent, or 400.12 points, to close at 29,296.05.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index dropped 1.37 percent, or 39.92 points, to 2,875.81 and the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, shed 2.13 percent, or 34.27 points, to 1,578.33.
