In a press statement issued here, Chohan further informed that the Deputy Commissioners of all the districts had also been given the responsibility of District Monitoring Officers.

He apprised that the monitoring officers would observe compliance of the code of conduct for the political parties and the election candidates.

The REC added that if the officers notice or receive any information about violation of the code by a political party or a candidate than an inquiry would be conducted.

He said if the violation was established in the inquiry, a fine of Rs.50,000 would be imposed.

However, he added, if a violation was done for the second time then the monitoring officer would refer the case to the ECP which had the authority to disqualify such a candidate.
