Recently, Liaquat had hinted at the possibility to leave PTI after Firdous Shamim Naqvi had refused to give him a party ticket. Liaquat claimed that Naqvi had said a few things to him that he cannot repeat due to his respect for PTI chairman Imran Khan. He added that he would make a final political decision in a day or two.

Earlier when Liaquat joined PTI in March, many party members and workers had expressed their disapproval. PTI member Salman Ahmad wrote, "After 35 years of defending, supporting and justifying Imran Khan, I no longer can. I fear reptiles surround him." However, he later backtracked. Actor Hamza Ali Abbasi had termed the joining of Liaquat as 'tragic'.
