ECP rejects PML-N objection on Punjab caretaker CM

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday rejected the objection of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) on the appointment of caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Prof Hassan Askari.

According to ECP officials, the commission also rejected the demand of PML-N to review the name of Prof Hassan Askari.

They said that the commission makes decisions on merit. They said that the unnecessary objection on the ECP was inappropriate.

They said that the ECP had made the decision of appointing caretaker CM Punjab under the Constitution and on failure of political parties to reach consensus on one name.

The said that the decision of appointing caretaker CM Punjab was made under article 224 of the Elections Act, 2017. They said that the caretaker CM name was finalized with consensus and thorough discussion in the commission.
