Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Nasirul Mulk took oath as the caretaker premier on Friday, hours after the ruling government’s tenure expired and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi stepped down from his post.

President Mamnoon Hussain administered the oath to caretaker PM at the President House. Former PM Abbasi was also present at the ceremony. Army, Navy and Air Force chiefs, along with Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani and other government officials and dignitaries, attended the ceremony.

The ruling government Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz completed its five-year tenure on Thursday night. The interim government will take over from today and also oversee the general elections that will be held on July 25.
