CJP orders to seize govt vehicles being used beyond official entitlement
The Supreme Court (SC) ordered on Thursday confiscation of all government automobiles by midnight, which are being used beyond their official entitlement by federal and Punjab ministers and departments.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar, during a hearing today, directed the relevant authorities to seize all the government vehicles that are being used by the ministers and officers beyond their official entitlement by midnight. On April 14, the SC had sought a record of all the officers and ministers who were using luxury vehicles, which were beyond their official entitlement from the cabinet secretaries of the federal and the provincial governments .
The CJP was informed by the Additional Attorney General Syed Nayyar Abbas Rizvi that presently 105 government-owned automobiles are in use by the members of federal cabinet and departments. He further said that former federal Law Minister Zahid Hamid owned a luxury vehicle. Upon this, Justice Nisar summoned the minister to appear in the next hearing.
The CJP has also ordered to confiscate bulletproof cars from all candidates participating in the general elections. He remarked that whoever wanted a bulletproof car should get their own as no one would be allowed to use bulletproof during elections.
The tenure of ruling government Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz will end tonight. The general elections are scheduled to be held on July 25.
