Annual food inflation rose to 3.7 percent from 3.3 percent in the 12 months through April. Non-food price inflation grew to 1.7 percent from 1.4 percent year on year, it said in a statement.
Communication costs remained unchanged, while goods and miscellaneous services were 6.8 percent more expensive, the data showed.
On a month-on-month basis, the consumer price index rose 0.3 percent in April compared with 0.1 percent in March, as food price inflation rose 0.7 percent, up from 0.2 percent.
