Caretaker PM’s name expected to be announced today
The caretaker premier's name is expected to be announced today, as Prime Minister (PM) Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Opposition Leader Syed Khursheed Shah will meet today and decide on the name.
The ruling party Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz's tenure will be ending on May 31, after which the caretaker setup will be handling the election 2018. The elections will likely fall in the end of July.
PM Abbasi and Shah met on May 18 to discuss the name of the caretaker PM but they were unable to reach to a conclusion regarding the name. After the meeting, Shah said that the duo will be having another discussion on Tuesday (today), after which they would announce the name.
According to local media reports, sources have revealed names of some of the candidates that have been considered for the temporary position. Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, former State Bank of Pakistan governor Shamshad Akhtar and former diplomat Jalil Abbas Jilani are the top three names that have been circulating to be named the caretaker PM.
During today's meeting PM Abbasi and Shah failed to reach consensus regarding caretaker name. The duo will be holding another meeting in the next two days.
